Ohio Crime – What can you expect to happen in your new crime case

September 25, 2009 1 comment

The scenario here is that you have just been arrested for a drug charge.  So the question is, what do I do?  The Cleveland Criminal attorneys at the Law offices of Greggory S. Robey recommend to you you 2 things to do or keep in mind upon arrest.

1.  Make no statements and provide no information before contacting an experienced Ohio criminal attorney.

2.  Do not agree to agree to subject yourself to any drug testing without legal representation from a Cleveland  criminal defense lawyer

Next question we would like to cover, are what are the events you can expect to follow.  Generally, there are 4 possibilities for your criminal case.

1.  If your case lacks merit, than the charges brought against you could be dismissed by the prosecution.

2.  The defense and prosecution could reach a plea agreement

3.Your case could be tried before a jury (normally elected the defense).

4. Or your case can be tried without a jury before a judge.  This is known as a bench trial (normally elected by the defense)

One thing to keep in mind with the federal court system, the defense has to get written consent from the government and the court to elect a bench trial.  Make sure you have an experience and qualified criminal attorney to advise you on the best course of action.

Ohio crime laws can be complicated and tricky, don’t try to handle it on your own.
